Emil Vișenescu

Emil Vișenescu graduated from the National University of Music Bucharest in 1993, studying under Professors Ion Cudalbu and Valeriu Bărbuceanu. Between 2000–2002, he studied at the Bern/Biel University of Music and Theatre, where he obtained the Soloist Diploma under the guidance of Professor Ernesto Molinari. He attended masterclasses led by renowned clarinetists such as Stephan Korody, Aurelian Octav Popa, Karl Leister, Walter Boeykens, Andrew Marriner, Martin Spangenberg, and Joszef Balogh.

Winner of the Aurelian Octav Popa Competition – Constanţa (1994) and Jeunesses Musicales Bucharest Competition (1996), he was awarded the Martha Moser Scholarship – Biel (Switzerland, 2001) and the Tschumi Musik Preis – Bern (Switzerland, 2002).

Since 1993, he has been a member of the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra in Bucharest, and since 2014, he has held the title of Associate Professor (Conferențiar Univ. Dr.) at the National University of Music Bucharest.

Between 2008–2011, he completed his doctoral studies at the National University of Music Bucharest under the supervision of Professor Dr. Șerban-Dimitrie Soreanu, finalizing his dissertation The Concertante Clarinet in Masterpieces of Romanian Musical Creation. Under the same mentorship, he pursued postdoctoral studies in 2012–2013, culminating in the synthesis paper The Phenomenology of Musical Interpretation from a Soloistic and Conducting Perspective.

In 2014, he published the book The Fascinating Clarinet in Romanian Musical Creation.
He is a member of the Mozaic Trio, the Profil Simfonietta Ensemble, and of the orchestras Bucharest Virtuosi and Camerata Regală.

As a soloist, he has performed with the orchestras of Constanţa, Râmnicu Vâlcea, Ploieşti, Satu Mare, Craiova, Târgovişte, Giurgiu, Pitești, Timișoara, Bacău, Iași, Arad, Oradea, as well as with the Philharmonia Orchestra Bucharest, the Icon Arts Orchestra Sibiu, the George Enescu Philharmonic, the Radio Chamber and National Orchestras of Bucharest, and the symphony orchestras of Biel, Bern, Dresden, Chișinău, and the Ludus Ensemble – Bern.
He has performed recitals in the international festivals SIMN, Meridian, and George Enescu.

A significant number of composers have dedicated concert and chamber works to Emil Vișenescu. These works were premiered by him and recorded for Radio, later appearing on numerous compact discs. Among these composers are Adrian Iorgulescu, Sabin Pautza, Doina Rotaru, Felicia Donceanu, Carmen Cârneci, Diana Rotaru, Adrian Enescu, Octavian Nemescu, Nicolae Brânduș, Dan Dediu, Vasile Timiș, and Șerban Nichifor.

He has served as a jury member in international competitions including Jeunesses Musicales – Bucharest, Gheorghe Dima – Cluj, and Sava Dimitrov – Sofia (Bulgaria), as well as in national competitions such as Marțian Negrea – Ploiești and Lira de Aur – Suceava.

As a clarinet professor, he has held masterclasses in Cisnădie/Sibiu, Bistrița, Eforie Sud, Sighișoara, Cluj, Brașov, Jerusalem (Israel), Oldenburg (Germany), Zurich (Switzerland), and São Paulo (Brazil).

He is the founder of Clarino, an ensemble of clarinet students from UNMB, whose mission is to promote young musicians on concert stages in Romania and abroad. The ensemble’s repertoire includes romantic, modern, and contemporary works. Many composers have dedicated pieces to Clarino, performed in premiere by the ensemble, which serves as a creative laboratory for developing young artists’ musical personality and talent.

Between 2015–2017, he completed the Master’s program in Orchestral Conducting at UNMB under the guidance of Professor Dr. Dumitru Goia. Since 2017, Emil Vișenescu has conducted the symphony orchestras of Craiova, Brașov, Pitești, Ploiești, Râmnicu Vâlcea, Chișinău, and the Camerata Regală Orchestra in Bucharest.

In 2018, he founded a chamber orchestra and initiated an opera and ballet performance project, presenting two masterpieces to the public: Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell and Apollon Musagètes by Igor Stravinsky.

In 2021, he participated in the masterclasses organized by Jeunesses Musicales Romania, benefiting from the guidance of Professors Christian Ehwald and Sigmund Thorp.
