Meng XU
Meng XU,Violist ,Associate Professor of Central Conservatory of Music. She graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Germany. Her mentors include Professor Wang Shaowu, Professor Matthias Buchholz, and Professor Nobuko Imai. As a teacher, her students have won numerous international awards, including first prize in the Youth Solo Category at the Pavanova International Music Competition in Italy; first and third prizes in the Solo Category at the Brisbane International Music Festival in Australia; the Gold Award in the String Professional Category at the New Talent International YouthCompetition in the UK; first prize in the String Category at the Melbourne International String Music Festival in Australia; first prize at the Città di Barletta International Youth String Competition in Italy; first prize in Chamber Music at the “Grand PrizeVirtuoso”International Music Competition in Salzburg, Austria; first prize in the Youth Chamber Music Category at the Malta International Music Competition; first prize in the Scholarship Competition of the Affiliated Middle School of the Central Conservatory of Music; the Gold Award at the Magnolia International Music Festival Concerto Competition; and multiple honors as an Outstanding Instructor in various competitions.She was selected for the Beijing Outstanding Young Talents Development Project organized by the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China. She served as the chief editor and published the score collection Viola Ensemble – Chinese Works. In collaboration with pianist Zhou Ying, she released the album Brahms Viola and Piano Sonatas.She has held multiple solo recitals. As an orchestral violist, she has served as the principal violist with the Central Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival Orchestra in Germany, the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra in Japan, the Seiji Ozawa Music Academy Orchestra, the Saito Kinen Festival Orchestra, the Kunming Nie’er Symphony Orchestra, and the Baotou Symphony Orchestra, among others. She has been invited to participate in events such as the Seiji Ozawa IMAS Chamber Music Festival in Switzerland, the Montepucciano Chamber Music Festival in Italy, the Shanghai “Crazy for Viola” International Viola Festival, the China-Singapore Chamber Music Week, the Central Conservatory of Music Chamber Music Festival, the Beijing Modern Music Festival, and masterclasses and performances at the Royal Conservatory of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Tongji University, and other institutions.
