Jazz Residency

THE JAZZ RESIDENCY @ ICON ARTS TRANSILVANIA will take place between 3 and 10 August, bringing together 10 young jazz musicians from Switzerland, Ireland, and Romania for a week-long creative residency in the town of Râșnov.

Guided by three renowned mentors, participants will explore improvisation, composition, and ensemble work in varied vocal-instrumental settings.
At the end of the residency, the students will present three public concerts in Sibiu, Codlea, and Râșnov. These performances will be part of the ICon Arts Transilvania Festival and partner summer festivals or concert series.

SARAH BUECHI

is a Swiss jazz vocalist and composer known for her distinctive voice and her unique integration of diverse musical traditions. With a background in both Western and South Indian classical music, she brings a rich and expressive palette to her vocal performances. Sarah is currently a professor at the Lucerne School of Music, where she guides young artists in vocal improvisation, composition, and ensemble work. Her artistic work is internationally recognized, with several critically acclaimed albums and collaborations across Europe and Asia.

ANA CRISTINA LEONTE

ANA CRISTINA LEONTE is a Romanian jazz vocalist, composer, and bandleader known for her innovative blend of jazz, electronic music, and spoken word. A distinctive voice on the contemporary scene, she creates projects that explore emotion, identity, and improvisation. Her performances often combine poetic narratives with rich sonic textures, offering audiences a deeply immersive experience. She has also curated several successful artistic projects such as Bucharest Jazz Festival, contributing to the development of the Romanian contemporary jazz and performance scene.

CIPRIAN POP

CIPRIAN POP is a Romanian jazz guitarist and educator, widely regarded as one of the most prominent figures of his generation. A graduate of the National University of Music Bucharest, he developed a distinctive and versatile style under the mentorship of Mircea Tiberian and Sorin Romanescu. His dynamic playing has earned him multiple awards and collaborations with top Romanian jazz artists. An appreciated and sought-after musician, he has been involved in a wide range of musical projects, spanning jazz, pop, and live performance productions.

THE JAZZ RESIDENCY is organized in partnership with Dublin City University and Lucerne School of Music / Institute of Jazz and Folk Music and is supported by the Swiss Sponsors’ Fund, a joint initiative of the Embassy of Switzerland and the Swiss-Romanian Chamber of Commerce.
